“...your arts are living testimony to the high aesthetic standards attained by your people, but because of their intrinsic universality, are part of the common cultural heritage of mankind." H.I.M
It is the joy of every volunteer to participate in enhancing the artistic skills within the Haile Selassie I Foundation.
Art is not only for commercial purposes; it provides an opportunity to learn and share skills, build patience and still the spirit. Through art production and marketing, numerous universal interaction opportunities arise, which manifests within the various programs of the organization. The art products provide resources for running the day to day affairs of the organization. They act as a medium for creating environmental awareness, as our products represent nature friendly practices. For posterity, the art work creates opportunities to carry forward the traditional skills, a threatened heritage, seamlessly through to the future generations.
The doors leading to Shiriki Organization volunteers are continually open to those seeking to learn or share a skills, at no charge. Many from the local and international communities have passed through these exact doors and are currently teaching or applying these skills.
Some of the art products currently available are hand woven shoes, bags, scarves, bracelets, various African ornamented jewelery, paintings, mosaics, mats, musical instruments and clothing (see merchandise section). We aim to reach out to all who wish to contribute ideas, skills and resources, to uplift this work.
